About Our Program

Great Leaps has been recognized for over 25 years as a premier research and evidence-based reading intervention. Our proven program was developed with the science of reading and applied behavior analysis adressing all five pillars of reading but specializing in students struggling with reading fluency. It was developed in the clasroom by a frontline special ed teacher and is highly data-driven.

Our Method

Great Leaps utilizes the behavioral principles of precision teaching in addition to the 5 Pillars of Reading as defined by the National Reading Panel. These building blocks are the foundation for developing your students' literacy skills. See the rationale and ways in which we incorporate these into our unique and powerful interventions.

Phonological Awareness

Our tutors have access to and training in "Great Leaps Language Growth," a book covering all the steps of phonological awareness including phonemic and morphemic awareness. Great Leaps was amongst the first interventions to incorporate this as an essential element for emergent readers.

In the 20 years that I have implemented Great Leaps with NYC teachers and paraprofessionals, the data clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of this amazing reading intervention.

Students with disabilities, especially students with severe dyslexia, some on the autism spectrum and ELLs, have improved to reading on grade level within a year or two when implemented with fidelity. Struggling students are finally reading with fluency which leads to better comprehension. Great Leaps is aligned with the Science of Reading, teaching reading by working on the 5 pillars of reading. It also takes into consideration students' limited attention spans. As a School Improvement Specialist, I was able to work with administrators to improve failing schools by using Great Leaps Reading and Math as a school-wide intervention.

Great Leaps has made a tremendous impact on my students. Whether the diagnosis is Dyslexia, ADHD, or a Processing Disorder, all of the students have improved.

With daily work, one 3rd grade girl moved from an early 1st grade level in reading to a 3rd grade chapter book with good comprehension in 2 months. Her parents and I were thrilled.
